British police arrest 528 suspected sex traffickers

LONDON - The British government says police have arrested 528 suspects in a months-long crackdown on human trafficking in the sex trade.

The Home Office says 167 victims had been identified. The youngest was 14. Most were from China, Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe.

There has been no report of how many suspects have been charged with crimes.

The operation began in October and involved 55 police forces.

The Home Office said Wednesday that a previous operation begun in 2006 identified 88 victims and led to charges against 134 suspects. - AP
