Some OFWs evacuated from Georgia to return to Manila
MANILA, Philippines - Some of the 34 overseas Filipino workers evacuated from strife-torn Georgia earlier this month will return to Manila for their vacation while the others will go to Qatar to work on other projects.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Saturday night that Arnulfo Rafer, the leader of the OFW group, disclosed this to Philippine ambassador to Turkey Bahnarim Guinomla.
A statement on the DFA website said Rafer and employer Anel Construction said some workers will depart for Manila for their vacation while the rest will go to Doha to work on projects with the Doha International Airport estimated to be finished by 2012.
Guinomla also received an invitation from Anel management to visit its office in Istanbul for a briefing on its various projects where they have employed Filipino workers.
Rafer, who will stay in Istanbul for more meetings with Anel management, also said those involved in the Georgia project will go back there as soon as stability returns to the country.
Last Aug. 12, Guinomla received and welcomed the 34 OFWs who arrived in Istanbul after evacuating from Georgia.
Guinomla assured the Filipino evacuees of the readiness of the Embassy to assist them as he thanked the representatives of Anel Construction for the evacuation of their Filipino workers.
