10 suspected illegal recruiters arrested in Manila

MANILA, Philippines - Ten suspected illegal recruiters have been arrested by the Task Force Against Illegal Recruitment (Tfair) during an entrapment operation held in a placement agency in Manila recently.

In a statement on Tuesday, Vice President and Tfair chairman Noli De Castro said the suspects were identified as Rebecca Ablao, 50, of Bacood, Sta. Mesa, Manila; Eugene Ablao, husband of Rebecca; Laura Hassan, 48, of Iriga St., Quezon City; Glen Egono, 24, of Balbago, Angeles City; Helen Valdez, 39, of Bago Bantay, Quezon City;

Arma Suriwan, 31, of Zamora St., Pasay City; Purisima Castro, 28, of Lingayen Pangasinan; Lesley Ann Garcia, 39, of Morong Rizal; Sharon Bernal, 38, of Sta. Rita, Samar; and Hermie Salazar, 54, of Electrical Road, Domestic Airport, Pasay City.

De Castro said the suspects were arrested while in the act of recruiting applicants for overseas jobs in their office, the Best Placement Services Inc. in Malate, Manila, without any license or special permission from the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA).
He said the entrapment operation was brought about by a complaint filed by three aspiring overseas Filipino workers who were duped by the agency into thinking that they would soon be deployed, but were not.

Tfair chief Col. Gilberto Sosa identified the three illegal recruitment victims as Rogelio Orayan, Duvary Concepcion, and Randy Dinglasan – all of whom were expecting to land jobs in Abu Dhabi and Canada as service workers.

Afterwards, 10 more persons – Janlyn Almoro, Jeffrey Gadia, Jimbert Beltran, Merlin Halili, Allan Neri, Vicente Gadingan, Meno Ramirez, Bienvinido Cajandoc, Ronnel de Guzman and Renato Eneane – also complained about the suspects at the Tfair office in Camp Crame.

The suspects, led by Rebecca who owns Best Placement Services Inc., are now facing charges of violating Republic Act 8042 otherwise known as the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act. - Kimberly Jane T. Tan, GMANews.TV
