No foul play in RP consul’s death – Ottawa police
CHICAGO – The Canadian police have ruled out foul play in the death of a Philippine foreign service officer, who was found dead nine days ago in his apartment in Ottawa, the capital of Canada.
Constable Alain Boucher, media relations officer of the Ottawa Police Service, told this reporter in a phone interview that First Secretary and Consul Eloy Luis B. Bello of the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa “died of medical problems."
“There was no foul play involved," he said, quoting an autopsy report.
Boucher refused to identify the cause of the death, deferring the matter to Bello’s next of kin to identify it.
Reached for comment, Philippine Ambassador to Canada Jose S. Brillantes told this reporter over the phone that the cause of death of Bello is “subarachnoid hemorrhage," a form of stroke.
Brillantes said Bello was found dead on the scene in his rented apartment last Saturday, Feb. 21.
He refused to give away additional details of the death of Bello, a bachelor, pending arrival of Bello’s parents, former Ambassador Eloy Bello III and Maria Consuelo, in Ottawa in a few days.
“His parents are still applying for visas to come to Canada," Brillantes added.
A native of Quezon City in the Philippines, Bello, 38, was found dead by police who forced their way into his flat upon the request of relatives, according to reports.
Bello served for two years as a foreign service officer in Vienna, Austria, prior to his posting in Ottawa.
