Atimonan ground commander brought to St. Luke's

The ground commander of the Atimonan, Quezon checkpoint where 13 men were killed in an alleged shootout was brought to a private hospital in Taguig City Thursday for a medical procedure.

Superintendent Hansel Marantan was transported to the St. Luke's Medical Center in Taguig City from the Philippine National Police General Hospital via a PNP ambulance.

PNP Health Service head Chief Superintendent Maria Angela Vidal said they wanted to have the nerves in Marantan's hand and arm checked, radio dzBB reported.

Vidal said Marantan had been experiencing numbness and he was healing slowly.

She said the medical procedure should not last long and he would be brought back to the PNP General Hospital once the procedure is finished.

On Wednesday, Marantan underwent minor surgery in his arm to close a wound.

He was shot and wounded in the Atimonan incident, which the National Bureau of Investigation was tasked by President Benigno Aquino III to probe. — DVM, GMA News
