Woman gives birth aboard Dubai-to-Manila flight


A woman gave birth aboard a flight from the United Arab Emirates to Manila, a UAE-based news site reported Thursday night.
 
The report on Gulf News said the flight was diverted to Kolkata (India) where the mother and child were brought to a hospital for "further care."
 
It cited witnesses who said the flight then took off for Manila.
 
However, the report did not immediately indicate the nationality of the mother.
 
"Today’s Emirates flight EK332 Dubai to Manila diverted to Calcutta in order to obtain medical assistance for a passenger. The safety of our passengers and crew is of the highest importance and will not be compromised," the Gulf News report quoted an Emirates spokesperson as saying.  — ELR, GMA News

STAR / Michael Varcas MANILA, Philippines — While Chinese vessels in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) have decreased in number, they have maintained a presence in three key land features where naval and coast guard ships have intensified operations in the past seven days, according to the Philippine Navy. Latest monitoring by the Philippine Navy showed armed ships of the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) maintaining a menacing presence around the grounded BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal, Panatag Shoal and Escoda Shoal.
