MANILA, Philippines - Two Filipino teachers headed to Japan on Sunday to participate in the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) program as assistant language teachers.
Chique Samaniego and Debra Mae CariƱo will be working separately in local senior high schools located in the prefectures of Gifu and Saitama.
As assistant language teachers, their primary role would be to help Japanese English instructors effectively deliver language lessons by coming up with innovative teaching materials and methods.
The JET Programme was launched by the Government of Japan in 1987 in the hope of deepening mutual understanding between the people of Japan and those of other countries through foreign language exchange and cultural immersion.
Since its inception, around 4,700 participants from over 40 different countries have already been admitted to the program. In the next few years, the program hopes to bring in even more participants from across the globe, including the Philippines, to Japan.
Application information on the next batch of Filipinos to be sent off for the JET Programme is expected to be made available on http://www.jetprogramme.org/ by September.
