Multiple Accreditation for PhilHealth Facilities

Consistent with its commitment to provide health insurance coverage to its members, PhilHealth is continuously enhancing its processes and improving its benefit packages to be responsive to the health needs of its members. To do this, PhilHealth needs to widen its access for its members to enjoy their benefits, especially when hospitalized.


Access to PhilHealth benefits means that members are able to avail themselves of their benefits. When a member is confined in a hospital, he should be able to use his PhilHealth membership and get the benefits he deserves. Access also means being able to go to any facility and not be troubled whether the facility is accredited by PhilHealth or not.
Members’ access to PhilHealth benefits has been at the forefront of PhilHealth’s continued commitment to its growing number of members. One way to ensure access of members is to encourage facilities to apply for accreditation.
To facilitate the accreditation of facilities and reduce administrative costs, both for the organization and its stakeholders, PhilHealth has implemented the application for multiple accreditation of facilities. The new scheme aims to simplify the process of accreditation by allowing a single application form to be utilized by the facility that intends to provide the TSeKaP, Maternity Care, Animal Bite, Directly Observed Treatment Short Course (DOTS), and Outpatient Malaria packages. Multiple accredited facilities will already be able to provide the different services in a single location.
The PhilHealth Regional Office IVA, through its Accreditation Section, was able to grant multiple accreditation to 41 facilities: 23 in Quezon, ten (10) in Laguna and eight (8) in Cavite. Most of these facilities have 3-in-1 or 4-in-1 accreditation but the City Health Office in Tayabas, Quezon stands out with its 5-in-1 accreditation, meaning, it can serve PhilHealth members needing TSeKaP, maternity care, TB DOTS, animal bite and malaria treatments. The Tayabas City Health Office has always been supportive of PhilHealth’s programs. It was one of the awardees for upholding the ideals of quality healthcare and for consistently meeting PhilHealth’s standards for excellence almost five (5) years ago. The PRO IVA also recognized it for its persistent effort to ensure the health of their community and was awarded the Lorenzo Tañada, Sr. Gawad para sa Natatanging Kabalikat sa Serbisyong Pangkalusugan – for RHU back in 2011.
Through the years, the Tayabas City Health Office has continued to improve its facilities to serve more clients. From offering basic health services at the grassroots, Tayabas CHO has constantly upgraded its facilities and it was able to receive its first 3-in-1 accreditation in 2010. At present, it has 14 Barangay Health Stations (BHS) providing Maternity Care, Newborn Care and immunization services and all of these are PhilHealth-accredited.
On the other hand, Calamba City Health Office was accorded its 4-in-1 accreditation last 2012. It provides members with services for Maternity Care, TB-DOTS, Animal Bite and TSeKaP. Calamba CHO also provides medical and dental, laboratory, nutrition, health and sanitation, maternal and child health services.
The Calamba CHO was established in 1970 through a grant from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) made possible by the Department of Health (DOH). The project is a step to strengthen the campaign for Maternal and Newborn Child Health and Nutrition.
Dr. Adelino C. Labro, OIC -Calamba CHO said that as health is a priority of the Local Government Unit, they are pushing for the accreditation of more facilities in Calamba City. "Mayor Justin Marc Chipeco plans to add more birthing facilities which are MCP or PhilHealth Accredited. To date, there are two birthing facilities managed by the City Health Office and both are PhilHealth Accredited. Mayor Chipeco wants to have the facilities in strategic places in Calamba to serve more pregnant women", Dr. Labro added.
These facilities are PhilHealth’s allies in providing the needed medical care services guaranteed by the social health insurance coverage of Filipinos. These providers have always been PhilHealth’s partners in the realization of its mandate of universal health coverage, and without their continued support, members will not be able to enjoy their benefits under the National Health Insurance Program (NHIP). (Sharyll M.
