45 Fil-Korean kids given schooling aid by Korean NGO
Scholarships and educational materials were awarded to 45 Filipino-Korean children last month as part of an event by a non-government organization in South Korea.
Five children received KRW 200,000 (more or less $200.00) each as financial educational assistance while educational materials worth KRW 50,000 ($50.00) were distributed to 40 other students during the “Love You Philippines, Thank You Korea” event.
The event, held last August 23, was organized by Universal Peace Federation (UPF) together with the United Filipinos in Korea (UFILKOR), a Filipino community organization based in South Korea, according to a news release from the Department of Foreign Affairs.
In his congratulatory remarks, Philippine Ambassador to South Korea Raul Hernandez thanked UPF president Yoon Cheong No and UFILKOR head Grace Tadili Park for organizing the event and for providing for the children under an agreement made in February 2014 between UPF and UFILKOR.
“The love and concern that we provide to our children today will be repaid a many times over by their future responsible leadership of our countries and their wise stewardship of our future generations,” he said.
Before this, over 20 Filipino-Korean kids received lessons in Filipino from the Philippine Embassy in a three-month language program that ended in August. The program aimed to strengthen the children's recognition of their Filipino heritage. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
