Pinoy nursing assistant in California nabbed for fraud
A Filipino nursing assistant in California is in hot water after he allegedly stole from his two elderly patients at a nursing home in Glendora.
A report on San Gabriel Valley Tribune said Maui Berganio, 29, was arrested on February 26 for taking debit card and account information from two of his patients at Kindred Transitional Care and using them for online transactions.
He was reported by one of his patients, an elderly woman aged 80 years old, last January 8 after she woke to find him kneeling by her bedside.
Glendora police detective Zach Houser said Berganio took the woman's debit card information and used it in numerous online transactions “totaling over $8,000.”
Among Berganio's purchases include furniture, tennis shoes, and automobile parts, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune report said.
The suspect has previously worked at Arbor Glen Care Center, Doctors Hospital, West Haven Healthcare Center, Citrus Valley Health Partners - Queen of the Valley Campus, and Sierra View Care Center, among other Southern California facilities. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
