22 OFWs from Saudi to be repatriated amid employer's financial problems

A batch of 22 overseas Filipino workers stranded in Saudi Arabia after their employer's company encountered financial problems is due to return to the Philippines on Black Saturday, the Philippine embassy in Riyadh said.

The embassy on Friday said it secured airline tickets for the immediate repatriation of the 22 OFWs of the Mohammad Al-Mojil Group (MMG).

In a post on its website, the embassy said the 22 are among hundreds of OFWs employed by the "struggling Saudi company."

According to the embassy, it is working for the repatriation of the OFWs staying at the MMG facility in Jubail in Eastern Province.

"Due to its acute financial and operational problems, MMG has failed in their responsibility to, among others, provide air fares for workers due for repatriation to their countries of origin," the embassy said.

Because of this, the embassy extended assistance to ensure the OFWs can return to the country soonest.

Meanwhile, the embassy said it has provided a local lawyer to represent the Filipino workers who are pursuing a legal complaint against the company for violations of their rights and entitlements under Saudi labor law.

The legal case is ongoing before the Saudi Labor Office's Primary Commission in Dammam. Joel Locsin/JST, GMA News
