DOLE assures financial help for kin of OFW killed in Libya

The Department of Labor and Employment on Sunday assured financial assistance for kin of an overseas Filipino worker killed in a rocket attack in Libya last March.

DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said the aid for kin of Jupiter Adrias will be coursed through the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.

"OWWA will provide repatriation assistance to the remains of Adrias, as well as financial support to his beneficiaries," the DOLE said.

It added Philippine Overseas Employment Administration head Hans Leo Cacdac has coordinated with Adrias’ Philippine recruitment agency for the repatriation of the OFW's remains.

The DOLE said Adrias, the lone Filipino fatality in the bombing in Zawiya town in Northeastern Libya, turned 31 last March 7.

It cited POEA records showing he was employed at Al Bareeq Cleaning.

Three other OFWs suffered injuries in the attack.

OWWA members are entitled to monetary benefits including health care, disability and death benefits, scholarships and financial assistance for education and training, workers assistance and on-site services, and social services and family welfare assistance.  Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
