PhilHealth Joins 3rd Multi-Agency Mission in Cambodia
Phnom Penh, March 24, 2015 - A contingent of three from the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) participated in this year's Multi-Agency Mission held on March 21 to 22, 2015 at the Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh, Kingdom of Cambodia.
Now on its third year, the event is meant "to provide opportunities for Overseas Filipinos in Cambodia to avail of various government services right where they are working," said Charge d' Affaires Myca Magnolia M. Fischer in her opening message.
The multi-agency mission is organized by the Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh and supported by the Samahan ng mga Pilipino sa Cambodia (SAMAPI). Other participating agencies include the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Department of Labor and Employment, and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
Services that were made available to Filipino Nationals during the two-day activity include issuance of PhilHealth Identification Number (PIN) and ID for new registrants; updating of membership profile which entails addition of dependents and correction of names and contact information; and printing of IDs and Member Data Record (MDR).
The one-on-one service also afforded members and non-members alike the opportunity to ask questions and be clarified on various concerns such as the possibility of extending their coverage even to nephews and grandchildren, payment options, and availment of benefits especially by their dependents in the Philippines.
They have requested PhilHealth to accredit payment partners in Cambodia so they can pay their premiums without delay and to avoid gaps in contributions. They welcomed the idea of paying through credit cards to address the need for updated payments and uninterrupted eligibility to the benefits.
A number of clients have also noted with joy the Government's recent move to grant health insurance to senior citizens through PhilHealth. Upon verification, many were surprised to learn that their elderly parents were automatically given coverage as Senior Citizen Members.
A total of 148 Filipino nationals residing, working and studying in Cambodia including their dependents have availed of the on-site services rendered by PhilHealth. Most of them are working as teachers and professors, medical and administrative staff in hospitals, supervisors in garment factories, among others.
Booth visitors were also provided with the latest reading materials on OFW membership and benefits and the chance to view PhilHealth's audio-visual presentation which was shown in loop throughout the two-day event. (Rey T. Baleña)
