OWWA RWO 3 ELAP SCHOLAR AWARDED AS ONE OF THE TEN OUTSTANDING STUDENTS OF THE PHILIPPINES- NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION (TOSP-NCR)
“To renew hope after every disaster is what matters in the society. The presence of love could be felt by seeing people who are ready to help others who are in need. Calamities affect the people’s lives and make them lose hope in moving forward. If we will give them the light to help them believe that we could all surpass these challenges, a positive change can happen,” this was Jean Claudette L. Galvez’ message as she was conferred with the award of Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines-National Capital Region. TOSP is an awards program, which recognizes exceptional youths for their academic excellence, leadership and diverse involvement in the community.

Jean Claudette L. Galvez, who hails from Subic, Zambales is an ELAP scholar of the OWWA RWO3 who graduated Cum Laude at University of Santo Tomas. She was recently awarded as one of the top ten outstanding students of the Philippines - NCR.

Jean lost her father, OFW Joseph Galvez in 2010, who died in UAE due to road traffic accident. She was in her senior year in high school during that time. Being the eldest among a brood of four, the sudden loss of her father had left Jean taking over a great responsibility. She realized that she needs to become self reliant and have the grit to overcome this challenge.

She was granted an OWWA scholarship under the educational component of the Education for Livelihood Assistance Program (ELAP). Under the program, one eligible dependent of the deceased OFW gets educational assistance per school year, corresponding to his/her educational level at the time the program is availed, which is in the amount of P5,000.00 for grade school, P8,000.00 for high school, and P10,000.00 for college level.

The young Ms. Galvez was determined to finish school and chart her way to success. She graduated Valedictorian from secondary school and went on to become a consistent honor student in college. Jean is planning to enroll in San Beda College of Law this coming semester. She believes that it is because of the grace of God working through the people around her, that she has made it this far.
