All-Pinay guitar trio tops Japan tilt
Filipina classical-contemporary guitar trio “Triple Fret” brought honor to the country after topping the 27th Japan Guitar Ensemble Festival last June 28 in Tokyo, the Philippine embassy there said Tuesday.
The guitar trio also won the Japan Guitar Association Award, the Kohno Guitar Award and the Harumi Award for Best Performance of an Original Contemporary Composition for Guitar Ensemble, the embassy said.
Created in 2011, the trio includes Jenny de Vera, Iqui Vinculado and Marga Abejo, products of the University of the Philippines College of Music and the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music.
The trio gained fame for its repertoire of Spanish guitar pieces, tangos, jazz standards, Filipino traditional music, and classical pieces.
