GMA’s LA correspondent Janet Susan Nepales wins press club award

Janet Susan R. Nepales, GMA Network's correspondent in Los Angeles, has won third prize in the Best Columnist or Critic-International category of the Los Angeles Press Club’s Annual Southern California Journalism Awards held recently at the Biltmore Hotel.

Nepales, who also writes the weekly column Hollywood Bulletin in Manila Bulletin, won for her article titled “Robin Williams: ‘Just Dance On My Grave.’”

Last year, Nepales won second place in the same category for her column titled “Meryl Streep On Growing Older, Wiser…And Not Scary.”

Nepales, who was recognized by the Filipina Women’s Network (FWN) in 2013 as one of the “100 Most Influential Filipina Women in the World,” is also one of the featured authors in the FWN’s first book titled, “Disrupt.”

“Disrupt” is a collection of stories from 35 FWN awardees who have shared their reflections on the meaning of leadership as well as their insights from their career and business experiences to help inspire Filipinas across the globe.

Nepales is the first and only Filipina in the 72-year-old Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which, in addition to presenting the coveted Golden Globe Awards, also recognizes excellence in film and television. She is also active in philanthropy.

She is married to writer-author Ruben V. Nepales. They have two daughters, Bianca Nicole and Rafaella Angelica.

Other highlights of the 57th Annual Southern California Journalism Awards were the presentation of the Daniel Pearl Award for courage and integrity in journalism to Charlie Hebdo, the French satirical paper that was hit by two attacks, including one in January this year.  Antonio Fischetti, a journalist for the paper, received the award. —KBK, GMA News
