Fil-Am nabbed in San Diego over ‘sextortion’

A Filipino-American youth was arrested in San Diego, California, for allegedly posing as a modeling agent to extort money and sex from aspiring models, reports said.

report on Fox 5 said Maverick Mendez Rosales, 24, would ask women to pose for nude photographs then use the photographs to extort money and sexual acts from them.

He pleaded not guilty last Friday to charges including rape by force and oral copulation by duress, the report said.

separate report on The San Diego Union-Tribune said prosecutors believe Rosales lured at least two women via Facebook and Craigslist to his scheme that lasted for two years.

The report also quoted Rosales' father as saying that his son was "a good kid" when he appeared in court during the arraignment.

The suspect, faces up to 13 years in prison if convicted of all charges, was arrested Wednesday in Mission Valley.

A readiness conference was set for Aug. 11 and a preliminary hearing for Aug. 13. —KBK, GMA News
