Displaced OFW families in Marawi entitled to OWWA aid


OFWs and families of overseas workers displaced by the ongoing conflict in Marawi City will receive financial aid from the Department of Labor and Employment and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
Pursuant to OWWA Board Resolution No. 07, Series of 2017, under OWWA’s Welfare Assistance Program (WAP), active OWWA members will receive P3,000 each while non-active members may claim P1,500 each.
"We were told that from the time the fighting among the government troops and the Maute group began, chaotic situation engulfed the area and residents left their homes sans their belongings and valuables," OWWA Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac said.
"Thus, we are ready to give cash assistance to help them in the financial aspect relative to their needs especially food and other basic essentials,” he added.
Claimants or availees of WAP may get in touch with the agency’s Regional Welfare Office (RWO) 10 for documentary requirements through  (88)857 8511 or 0917 548 0033.
A total of 1,418 OWWA members, both active and inactive, are registered with RWO 10.
Teams from RWO 10 were dispatched by Cacdac under orders of Labor Sec. Silvestro Bello III to coordinate with local government units to confirm the number of OFWs affected by the crisis.
OWWA has allocated P2.7 million for WAP.
Armed confrontations continue to escalate as security forces pressed harder against enemy positions in a mopping-up operation to free Marawi City by Friday—the military's self-imposed deadline.
The military earlier said only 10 percent of Marawi City remained under the control of the Maute group, and that the military is employing "judicious use of force against the enemy."
