Filipino students brought home 39 awards, including two gold medals, from an international mathematics competition in South Korea last week. According to Mathematics Trainers Guild—Philippines, delegates to the 2014 Korea International Mathematics Competition (KIMC) in Daejeon, South Korea bagged two gold, four silver and eight bronze medals, and 12 merit awards as well as the champion, one first runner-up, and nine second runner-up trophies at the math meet. Thirty Filipinos who availed of repatriation from strife-torn Libya are due to arrive Tuesday, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Monday. The DFA said the 30 are to arrive at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1, with the first batch of 24 arriving at 4 p.m. aboard Qatar Airways QR926 . It said the second batch of six are to arrive at 4:35 p.m. aboard Emirates Flight EK 332. On Sunday, 42 OFWs from Libya arrived in Manila while five more arrived early Monday. The DFA said Tuesday's arrivals would bring the total number of repatriated Filipinos from Libya to 708. "They will be briefed and assisted by DFA and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) representatives at the airport," it said. Artist Greta Lood did not just imagine it; she made it happen. She invited two of her Filipina friends to go rowing under Central Park’s Bow Bridge. Instead of wearing summer hats, each one cradled a dainty parasol. There’s something about New York’s historic and most romantic park that inspires artistic visioning. Greta is a big fan! She is drawn to the scattered elements that give Central Park its splendor: the river, the arching bridges, the trees, sunshine weaving through the leaves. Even the laughter of lovers one hears but does not see. The artist interprets such sparkle using shadows and color.   I asked Greta why she is in love with Central Park. A Filipina nurse was found dead by the roadside last week in New Jersey with multiple stab wounds in her body, an online report said Sunday. The  report on Courier Post Online  said the body of 41-year-old Jennifer Bongco was found at Erial and Wiltons Landing Road in Winslow Township, New Jersey, by a pizza deliveryman on the wee hours of Friday. The victim's boyfriend, identified as Kevin Ambrose, 52, was arrested in Atlantic on the same day as a suspect in the killing, the report said. The murder was reportedly witnessed by Bongco's five-year-old daughter Jessica Frantes. Citing information from the police, the report said Ambrose picked Bongco up at work on Friday morning, with Jessica in the back seat. Jessica reportedly told the police that she saw her mom and Ambrose arguing while inside the car. She was quoted as saying that she saw Ambrose "hitting mommy." Many more suspects have been identified as accessing these horrific images of children being abused and could be arrested soon. The depressing news is that many of the images are of very young Filipino children and some could have been made by a British subject or her male associates.
