Embassy urges Pinoys in Saudi Arabia to stay calm

The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh has advised Filipinos in Saudi Arabia to remain calm amid reports of worsening conflict between the Kingdom and Syria.
In a short statement on Wednesday, the embassy said there is "currently no reason to be concerned about the safety and security of Filipinos in Saudi Arabia."
"The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh advises the Filipino community to remain calm," it said as it vowed to "provide regular updates on the situation in Saudi Arabia as the need arises."
The embassy issued the statement after several pro-OFW groups appealed to the government to prepare in case the security situation in the Middle East worsens due to the Saudi Arabia-Syria conflict.
There are an estimated 2.1 million OFWs in the Middle East; more than a million are in Saudi Arabia. —KBK, GMA News

STAR / Michael Varcas MANILA, Philippines — While Chinese vessels in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) have decreased in number, they have maintained a presence in three key land features where naval and coast guard ships have intensified operations in the past seven days, according to the Philippine Navy. MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) sees social media as the main reason for the rising number of Filipinos marrying or becoming partners of foreign nationals. In 2022, the CFO recorded 6,854 marriages or partnerships with foreign nationals, a 40.1 percent increase from the 4,891 “intermarriages” recorded in 2021. “First of all, what we see in the increase in the marriage rate of Filipinos or Filipinos with foreign partners is because of social media, (that) is number one; matchings; letters, introduction of their friends,” CFO chairperson Romulo Arugay said at the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon public briefing yesterday.
