Evacuation plan for Pinoys in Guam still in place –consul general



The evacuation plan for Filipinos in Guam remains in place despite North Korea's decision to hold off its planned nuclear missile strike on the island, a report on QRT said Thursday.
"Mamanmanan natin, magmo-monitor tayo ng situation. Ayaw naman nating magkaroon sila ng problema just in case meron tayong evacuation na hindi naman coordinated," said Consul General Marciano de Borja.
The report said in case of an attack, Filipinos will be evacuated by plane.
"Nasa contingency ng ating pamahalaan na magpadala ng commercial flights o military aircraft para po meron naman tayong magamit para sa paglikas ng ating mga kababayan," De Borja said.
An official news agency in North Korea earlier reported that leader Kim Jong Un received a report from his military on its plans to fire missiles towards Guam and said he will watch the actions of the United States for a while before making a decision.
North Korea issued the threat after US President Donald Trump pronounced that Pyongyang will be met with "fire and fury" if it continues to threaten the United States.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has placed Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands under Alert Level 1 amid North Korea's nuclear missile threat.
Under Alert Level 1 (precautionary phase), Filipinos in Guam, Saipan, Tinian and Rota are urged to be aware of unfolding events and to continue monitoring reports from reliable media outlets and official advisories. —KBK, GMA News

STAR / Michael Varcas MANILA, Philippines — While Chinese vessels in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) have decreased in number, they have maintained a presence in three key land features where naval and coast guard ships have intensified operations in the past seven days, according to the Philippine Navy. MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) sees social media as the main reason for the rising number of Filipinos marrying or becoming partners of foreign nationals. In 2022, the CFO recorded 6,854 marriages or partnerships with foreign nationals, a 40.1 percent increase from the 4,891 “intermarriages” recorded in 2021. “First of all, what we see in the increase in the marriage rate of Filipinos or Filipinos with foreign partners is because of social media, (that) is number one; matchings; letters, introduction of their friends,” CFO chairperson Romulo Arugay said at the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon public briefing yesterday.
