With new cases of the coronavirus in the country, is the government doing enough to meet the threat of the virus? Here are the stories making the headlines on ANC today:
More danger
New infections of the coronavirus infectious disease-19 (COVID-19) have been reported and are considered as evidence of local transmissions. Vice President Leni Robredo said more Filipino could be in danger if COVID cases are under reported. Health Sec. Francisco Duque denied any underreporting. President Duterte will be signing an executive order declaring a state of public health emergency due to COVID. It turns out that the DOH asked for the declaration as far back as Feb. 21.
Beyond regulation
Robredo also said she wondering why there is no action against operations of Philippine Offshore Games Operations (POGOs) despite “glaring evils.” Sen. Franklin Drilon said POGOs are now “beyond regulation” and wants their licenses to operate revoked. Palace said it was unlikely Duterte would order a stop to the operations of POGOs.
Provisional authority
Justice Sec. Menardo Guevarra said broadcast companies should not be punished if Congress does not act on their franchise. Guevarra was reacting to a petition filed before the Supreme Court questioning the validity of a letter of Congress urging the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to issue a provisional authority to operate to ABS-CBN. But Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo earlier said it might be illegal for the NTC to issue the provisional authority.
Another probe
A committee in the House of Representatives is scheduled to probe the entry of $370 million of dirty money into the country. Sen. Richard Gordon, who led a similar probe at the Senate, will be guest on Headstart to talk about their hearings on the matter.
A new man
If Asi Taulava decides to walk away from the game, he will be doing so as his best self. ANCX checks in with the PBA veteran and the changes he has been applying to his life.
