In a virtual press conference, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said Mary Anne Daynolo’s remains had already been repatriated back to the country. He said the National Bureau of Investigation will conduct an autopsy on the body as requested by the OFW's family.
Bello said Daynolo’s remains were found in January after an Ugandan suspect admitted killing her. The suspect led authorities to the area where Daynolo's remains were exhumed.
Daynolo went missing from her workplace on March 4, 2020. She was a receptionist in a hotel in Abu Dhabi.
Bello said the government will hold accountable the person responsible for Daynolo’s death.
“Justice must be given to Mary Anne and to the parents of Mary Anne,” he said.
Malacañang, meanwhile, pledged to give justice to Daynolo.
“Ang pangako po ng Presidente, mabibigyan po ng hustisya at katarungan ang pagkamatay ng ating kababayang si Mary Anne Daynolo,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque told reporters in a press briefing.
Asked if the Philippines would review the OFW deployment to the UAE, Roque said the government continues to protect the welfare of OFWs.
—with Virgil Lopez/KBK, GMA News
