About 70,000 to 80,000 more pandemic-stranded overseas Filipino workers are expected to return home to the Philippines, Overseas Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) administrator Hans Cacdac said Sunday.

"Isang concern natin itong new variant. Mga 70,000 to 80,000 ang darating pa na naapektuhan ng COVID-19, and then yung naapektuhan ng travel ban sa UAE (United Arab Emirates), mahigit kumulang 5,000 sila. At ang mga dumadating na regular passengers, yung uuwi talaga, magbabakasyon so ganoon," Cacdac told "Dobol B TV."
(Our concern is the new variant. An estimated 70,000 to 80,000 OFWs affected by the pandemic and travel ban are arriving. Add to this the over 5,000 affected by travel ban on the UAE. We also have regular vacationing expatriates coming.)
Earlier, the government extended the travel ban on incoming travelers from the UAE and six other countries until June 30 due to the threat of the Delta variant, or the variant that originated from India.
On the other hand, Cacdac said that the Department of Budget and Management has approved the Special Allotment Release Order of P5.2 billion, which is lower than the P9.8 billion OWWA originally requested.

"This will go on maybe around until September. Naghahanda na rin tayo sa panibagong proposal kasi P9.8 talaga hinihingi natin" (We are also preparing a new proposal because we really need P9.8 billion), Cacdac said.
According to him, the P5.2 billion is being used for accommodation, cash aid and repatriation expenses of OFWs displaced by the COVID-19 pandemic. —LBG, GMA News
