DFA: 248 more Filipinos abroad contract COVID-19

The number of COVID-19 cases among Filipinos overseas increased to 23,817 with the addition of 248 new infections, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Tuesday. The DFA said the death toll rose to 1,424 with 74 new fatalities. The agency also recorded a total of 14,129 recoveries. So far, there are 8,264 active cases undergoing treatment. The Middle East/Africa remained be the region with the most confirmed COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad at 13,129, with 928 deaths and 6,652 recoveries. The Asia Pacific Region followed with 5,996 infections, including 114 fatalities and 4,234 recoveries. In Europe, a total of 3,651 Filipinos were infected with the virus, of whom 130 have died, while 2,562 have recovered. The Americas, meanwhile, has recorded 1,041 cases with 252 fatalities and 681 recoveries. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/BM, GMA News
