A Filipino family residing in Israel is facing possible deportation after the mother was discovered to have entered the country illegally in 1996, an online news report said Wednesday.
The Haaretz.com report said Christopher and Lorna Cruz is petitioning Israel's Supreme Court to allow them and their 11-year-old son, Rabbi Eliezer, to stay in the country after an administrative court in Jerusalem ordered their deportation.
The report said Lorna falsified her travel documents by declaring that she was 25 when she entered Israel in 1996. She was 18 at the time.
Under Israeli law, migrants who enter the country illegally should be deported. At least 35 other families are scheduled to be deported.
Christopher Cruz said bringing his son back to the Philippines would be "like stopping his life", pointing out that Rabbi only speaks Hebrew.
