OFWs and their families were polled online about their media preferences and GMA's news website was chosen for "OFWs' Gawad Parangal," according to Fe Nicodemus, chair of KAKAMMPI, which conducted the poll.

"GMA News Online is pro OFW, totoong mga balita, dekalidad at walang kinikilingan," said Nicodemus in a text message Thursday.

Nicodemus said most of their respondents came from the Middle East, Singapore and Hong Kong. The other media awardee was Susan K, an Inquirer columnist who writes the "Ang boses ng OFW" column. KAKAMMPI, or the Kapisanan ng mga Kamag-anak ng Migranteng Manggagawang Pilipino, also gave awards to several NGOs and institutions. Editor-in-chief Howie Severino accepted the award on GMA News Online's behalf last Monday evening.

More than half of GMA News Online's audience reside overseas, with a large number in Saudi Arabia. One of the website's more prolific sections is Pinoy Abroad, which aside from news about OFW issues, posts content related to Filipino achievers overseas as well as self-help articles that Pinoys far from home can use. It also publishes articles by overseas content partners The Filipino Reporter and The FilAm.

The section is headed by Veronica Pulumbarit, with staff writers Drei Medina and Gian Geronimo. -- GMA News
