Five Pinoys arrested for using fake Malaysian IDs – reports

Five Filipinos were arrested in a two-day operation by Malaysian police for possessing fake Malaysian identity cards or MyKads as part of their Identity Card Checking Operation (Ops ID), various online reports said.
Bernama News reported the first arrest as a Filipino security guard nabbed in a five-hour operation in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur that ended past midnight on January 9.
On the other hand, National Registration Department (NRD) director-general Mohd Yazid Ramli was quoted by The Malay Mail Online that the Filipino man had been in Malaysia for a month and received the MyKad from a friend upon his arrival from Baslian.
“He admitted to entering Malaysia through Sandakan coming straight to Kuala Lumpur via KL International Airport 2 (KLIA2) using a Philippines international passport, that he had dumped as soon as he obtained an identity card,” Yazid said.
A couple suspected to have similarly-forged cards were arrested in another apartment in Segambut after failing to escape from authorities, he said.
“They were arrested and checks revealed that they used fake identity cards to work in Malaysia as a construction worker and a restaurant assistant at a popular shopping centre in the capital,” Yazid said.
Both claimed they bought the fake identity cards for RM1,200 each in Kota Kinabalu two months ago.
Meanwhile, New Straits Times reported that two more Filipino security guards were detained following the couple's arrest.
Yazid said the pair arrested on January 10 had fake MyKads with documents that "are not in accordance with NRD’s specification."
“They later confessed that they are from Basilan, Philippines and have been in Malaysia for two months," Yazid said in a statement.
“One of them said he entered Malaysia through Sandakan and travelled to Kuala Lumpur by using the fake IC that he bought from an agent for RM400,” he added.
Reached for his comment on the matter, Foreign Affairs spokesman Charles Jose said: "I'm not aware of it. Will have to check with the office concerned." — RSJ, GMA News
