Pinoy Lakers fan wins $95,000 after hitting halfcourt shot

A Filipino-American basketball fan made himself $95,000 (close to P5 million) richer by hitting a halfcourt shot during a Los Angeles Lakers game at Staples Center on Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila).
An article on NBA.com said Jerald Acoba, 30, from Tulare, California, not only won himself cash but also got to celebrate with the Lakers themselves after they defeated the Memphis Grizzlies, 116-102.
Acoba, who identifies himself as a Filipino in his Instagram account, took the shot between the third and fourth quarters as part of the Aria Big Shot Jackpot.


The lucky fan said he intends to use the money to buy his mother a new car.
“She’s always been there for me when I need her,” Acoba said in the NBA.com article. “She’s always there to help me out. It’s my turn to repay the favor to her.” —KBK, GMA News
