NBI seizes over 100 pieces of nursing reviewers and textbooks during raids

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) seized over 100 pieces of nursing examination reviewers and textbooks during raids on three establishments engaged in the selling of unregistered reproductions of nursing licensure examination reviewers and textbooks in front of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) in Sampaloc, Manila.

Raided were Ferpage located at No. 881 P. Paredes Street, Sampaloc, Manila; RBL at No. 883 P. Paredes St., Sampaloc, Manila and an establishment owned by Vergel Viloria located at No. 851 P. Paredes St., Sampaloc, Manila.

Head Agent (HA) Angelito Magno, chief of the Special Action Unit (SAU), said the raids were conducted following a complaint filed by C & E Publishing regarding the reproduction of their Compact discs (CDs).

Surveillance conducted by the NBI-SAU confirmed the reports.

Armed with several search warrants issued by Judge Aida Layug of the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC), the raiding teams swooped down on three establishments.

The raids resulted in the seizure of 131 pieces of Lippincot textbooks; 15 pieces of Mosby; 4 pieces of Mosby's Comprehensive Review textbooks; 12 pieces of Mosby and Elsevier; 4 pieces of assorted Sanders textbooks; 98 pieces of CDs; a complete computer set; 4 pieces of Lipincott's Review for NCLEX-RN; 21 pieces of CDS of C&E Publishing; a computer set without printer; a price list of books and a record book.

Reports said most of the textbooks or reviewers mentioned costs around P1,000 to P1,200. The said establishments however sell the said books which are photocopied and bookbinded versions, for only P250 to P300.

Aside from the establishments, the NBI agents also seized the textbooks found in the stalls located in the said area.

The owners of establishments are facing charges for violation of R.A. 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
