2 Pinoys in UAE suffering from leukemia, kidney failure need help

MANILA, Philippines - Two Filipinos in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) suffering from life-threatening diseases are seeking immediate assistance for their treatment.

Khaleej Times on Tuesday reported that Omar Estomaguio Danos, 46, who is based in Dubai has leukemia and needs bone marrow transplantation, while Raquel Briones, 37, based in Al-Ain, needs kidney transplantation because her kidneys have been malfunctioning for the past two years.

Danos, who worked as civil engineer for international construction firm W JNP has been staying at Dubai’s Rashid hospital for the last seven months.

Although the hospital provides Danos with free medicines, accommodation, and food, he needs further help because according to his physician, Mahmoud M. Marashi, Danos needs to immediately undergo bone marrow transplantation, which is not available in the UAE.

Bone marrow transplantation costs about P4 million (approximately Dh400, 000) in the Philippines, and $250,000 in the United States (about Dh912,500), according to Khaleej.

Meanwhile, Briones is suffering from third stage of renal parenchymal disease. Only 30 percent of her kidneys is functioning. She is being treated at the Al Ain Government Hospital.

Khaleej said Briones earlier went to the Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune, India where it was found out that she was suffering from the disease.

Kidney transplantation in Germany costs between Dh100, 000 and Dh250,000 (P1,189,000 and P2,972,500), while in the Philippines the surgery could be done for only Dh65,000 (P772,850), according to Khaleej. - GMANews.TV
