RP gov't verifies report on Pinay gang-raped in Kuwait
MANILA, Philippines - A report that a Filipino woman was raped in Kuwait has reached officials of the Philippine government who are now verifying the alleged incident.
Claro Cristobal, spokesman of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), on Tuesday told GMANews.TV that the agency was verifying the report with the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait.
"The Embassy is checking that report," Cristobal said.
The Arab Times on Sunday reported that three men abducted the Filipina and brought her to an abandoned area in Fahd Al-Ahmad, Ahmadi where the alleged perpetrators took turns in raping the woman.
After the alleged incident, the men reportedly fled to an unknown destination. The woman went to a police station where she reported what happened to her, and described her attackers.
Arab Times said authorities were tracking down the suspected rapists.
In May 2008, it was reported that a Kuwaiti soldier was charged with murdering and then raping Filipina maid Fatima Sagadan Maulana, whose remains were later found in Kabad desert southwest of Kuwait City, the country’s capital.
In November 2007 three Filipinas, one of them 17 years old, were gang-raped in separate incidents. All the victims were abducted in Kuwait City, according to the DFA.
In November 2003, the DFA said three Kuwaiti policemen were prosecuted and imprisoned for raping a Filipina domestic helper.
