8 of 16 new RP envoys, chiefs of mission take oath

MANILA, Philippines - Eight out of the 16 new Philippine ambassadors and chiefs of mission took oath after their appointments were approved Wednesday.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto G. Romulo administered the oath of office to the country’s newest batch of ambassadors and chiefs of mission after the Commission on Appointments (CA) confirmed their nominations on May 27.

The new appointees who took oath include Eleanor L. Jaucian (Chief of Mission Class II), Bayani S. Mercado (Chief of Mission Class I), Hellen M. Barber (ambassador to Myanmar with the rank of Chief of Mission, Class II), Teresita G. Barsana (ambassador to the Portugal);

Ana Ines de Seguera-Ugarte (ambassador to Spain), Grace R. Princesa (ambassador to the United Arab Emirates), Isaias F. Begonia (ambassador to Romania), and Crescente R. Relacion (ambassador to Qatar).

Also approved by the CA were the appointments of Antonio Manuel Lagdameo (United Kingdom and Northern Ireland), Mercedes Arrastia-Tuason (Holy See and Malta), Cardozo Luna (Netherlands), Evan Garcia (Brazil, Colombia, Guyana and Suriname), Ma. Angelina Sta. Catalina (Finland), Maria Aniceta Aileen Bugarin (Timor-Leste), Alejandro Del Rosario (Poland), and Ma. Corazon Yap-Buhain (Bharain).

On the other hand, former Armed Forces chief of staff and retired General Alexander Yano is awaiting confirmation for his nomination as ambassador to Brunei after Senate Pro-Tempore Jinggoy Estrada asked for more time to review his appointment. - Kimberly Jane. Tan, GMANews.TV
