PHL Embassy in UK closed on Aug. 21, 31

The Philippine Embassy in the United Kingdom will be closed on Aug. 21 and 31, in observance of Philippine and UK holidays.

In an announcement on its website, the embassy said Aug. 21 is Ninoy Aquino Day, a special non-working day in the Philippines.

Aug. 21 marks the 32nd anniversary of the assassination of former Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr., father of incumbent President Benigno Aquino III.

Meanwhile, Aug. 31 is a holiday in both the Philippines and the UK.

In the Philippines, it will commemorate National Heroes Day while in the UK, it will mark Summer Bank Holiday.

Regular office hours will resume on Aug. 24 and Sept. 1 respectively, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said in an advisory.

On the other hand, the embassy said Filipinos may contact its emergency mobile phone at 078-0279-0695 "in case of death or detention of a Filipino citizen in the United Kingdom." Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
