‘Laglag bala’ victim’s camp mulls legal action vs. police

The camp of Gloria Ortinez, the OFW who claimed to have been victimized by the "laglag bala" scheme at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), is mulling filing appropriate legal actions against the policemen who arrested her last month.

"We’re still contemplating possible legal actions. We are definitely waiting for the results of the investigation regarding the possible tanim bala scam," lawyer Spocky Farolan, Ortinez's counsel, said in a text message to GMA News Online.

On that day, Ortinez was stopped at NAIA Terminal 2 due to a bullet found in her bag. Currently facing investigation, she claimed the bullet was not hers and was planted in her bag by somebody.

Farolan said they will based their next move from the results of the investigation, stressing they do not want to appear vindictive.

Regarding the possible case, Farolan said it will stem from the alleged mistreatment of Ortinez,  a single mother of two who has been working overseas for over 20 years, at the hands of the police.

"On the other aspects of the case like how the police handled and questioned her, tried to make her to sign a document they never even explained to her, the unnecessary delay in her inquest, as well as the discrepancy in the bullets presented during inquest are matters which we are also contemplating taking the necessary legal actions,” he said.

In an interview with GMA News TV’s News To Go earlier in the day, Farolan narrated what happened to Ortinez when the bullet was found on her bag.

"Si Nanay Gloria dinala sa kuwarto na puro awtoridad, very confused and nervous na yung tao tapos sinasabihan ka pa na, 'Aminin mo na kasi, sa'yo yang anting-anting.' Sila ang nagsasabi, it never came from her na anting-anting yun," he said.

“Based on her narration, merong pinapirmang papel. Noong ayaw niyang pirmahan sabi sa kanya, ‘Pag hindi mo pinirmahan ‘yan poposasan ka namin.’ Ni hindi pinaliwanag sa kanya kung ano yung papel na yun. Kahit nung in-escortan na siya ng pulis papuntang presinto, may nagsasabi pa rin na ‘Aminin mo na kasi,” he added. —KBK, GMA News
