Pinay wins Mrs. Grandma Universe tilt in Bulgaria

A Filipina quinquagenarian from Cebu was hailed Mrs. Grandma Universe 2017 in the recently-concluded pageant in Bulgaria, according to a report on Balita Pilipinas on Thursday.
Held last January 22 in Sofia, Agnes Jakosalem, 51, bested contenders from 14 other countries for the title, the report said.
The report added that instead of the traditional question and answer portion, the contestants were made to participate in an essay-writing contest. The pageant also reportedly had a long-gown competition.
Jakosalem said her experiences in co-parenting her lone granddaughter helped her answer the essay as it was based on the candidates' experiences about grandparenting.
report on Yahoo said it was the first pageant Jakosalem, a mother of three, has ever joined. She was also the first Filipina to win the competition.
Jakosalem told reporters in her homecoming on Thursday that constant encouragement from her children and nephews pushed her to join Mrs. Grandma Universe on its eighth incarnation.
Now involved in real estate, Jakosalem graduated BS MedTech from the Southwestern University before she moved from her province of Zamboanga del Norte to Cebu, according to an article on The Cebuano. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
