Pinay K-Pop aspirant makes finals on SoKor singing show
A young Filipina singer made it to the final round of a reality singing show in South Korea months after she was saved by judges from elimination.
Crisha Choo, or Kriesha Tiu as she's known in real life, made it to the final stages of K-Pop Star 6 on SBS, according to English-language South Korean site Koreaboo.
She was originally eliminated in January after losing in a team battle but was given a second chance when judges used a wild card to bring her back.
Choo claimed first place when she performed with fellow contestants Kim Sohee and Kim Hyerim as the group KWIN.
They beat the fan-favorite, British-Korean singer Shannon, with high scores from judges Park Jin-young, Yang Hyun Suk, and Yoo Hee Yeol.
Koreaboo translated Park's praise of Choo's rendition of his song as follows:
“Chrisha Choo perfectly captured the feeling of the swing dance and song. This is beyond anything I could have imagined. Her volume and tone was so refreshing, I could tell she has singing skills. Chrisha Choo was the ace.”
This is the last season of K-Pop Star, a show where the winner will be debuted and promoted by South Korea's top three production companies: Park's JYP Entertainment; Yang's YG Entertainment; and You's Antenna Music.
Choo has an active Filipino fan base on social media and has never shied away from admitting to her Filipino roots.
The 17-year-old singer was born in Cebu City but grew up in San Francisco, California, where she was discovered by talent agency Urban Works Entertainment.
