No immediate report of Pinoys hurt in New York truck attack
The Philippine Consulate said it has not yet received a report of any Filipinos hurt or killed when a truck drove at high speed down a bike path in Manhattan, New York on Monday, according to a report on Unang Balita by GMA News stringer Boyet Loverito from New York.
Authorities placed the area in Manhattan on lockdown where a man drove a truck, mowing down cyclists and pedestrians. Eight people died.
Police said the driver got out of the vehicle—a rented truck—, shouted "Allahu Akbar", then aimed a paint ball gun and a pellet gun at authorities.
He was shot by police then taken into custody.
The area where the incident occurred is a tourist spot as it is near the Freedom Tower (World Trade Center). Workers employed at the financial center also pass by it. —KG, GMA News
