Pinoys in HK warned vs. recruiters offering fake jobs in UK, Russia

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has warned Filipinos in Hong Kong about recruiters offering non-existent jobs in the United Kingdom and Russia, GMA News' Tina Panganiban-Perez reported on 24 Oras on Monday.
The recruiter reportedly entices OFWs in Hong Kong to apply for jobs in other countries through Facebook.
According to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), domestic helpers in the UK earn almost double than the $400 monthly salary of domestic helpers in Hong Kong.
"Dadalhin sila for example sa UK dahil may offer sa kanila na mas magandang trabaho at mas mataas na sahod, pero ang totoo sila ay magiging biktima lamang ng illegal recruitment," said POEA administrator Bernard Olalia,
The report said recruitment agencies in Hong Kong are asking for HK$28,000 or about P185,000 for those who want to work in Russia.
The visa used by the OFWs, however, is either commercial, student or tourist visa, resulting in hundreds of OFWs in Russia who have no working visa.
"Ini-expect ng mga Pilipino kaya pumupunta sila dito sa Russia, kasi double daw 'yung sahod. Pero pagdating dito walang trabaho," an OFW in Russia said in the report.
Philippine labor attaché in Hong Kong Jalilo dela Torre said this put the OFW in an unpleasant and even dangerous situation.
"Mahirap ang kalagayan nila doon," he said. "Ang ginagawa nila doon laging patago, nag-iiwas sa pulis, sa immigration, baka mahuli at ma-deport. So napakahirap ng situation nila doon," he said.
The Department of Labor and Employment is advising OFWs to consult first with the Philippine labor attaché in the country they are in regarding jobs offering high salary in other countries. —KBK, GMA News
