105 distressed OFWs return from UAE
October 04, 2018
THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said some 105 overseas Filipino workers who availed themselves of the United Arab Emirates amnesty program are expected to arrive this evening from a flight from Dubai.
This brings to 1,301 the total number of Filipinos flown home by the DFA since the start of the UAE’s amnesty program in August.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano said that in line with the President’s instructions to extend all possible assistance to distressed Filipinos abroad, the DFA shouldered the exit fines and other penalties, airline tickets to Manila and to the respective provinces of the repatriates. The DFA also provided financial assistance of P5,000 to each of the repatriates.
Cayetano encouraged undocumented Filipinos to take advantage of the UAE’s amnesty program before the October 31 deadline.
Cayetano met UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan in New York last week to personally thank him for the amnesty program.
