Makati assures aid for residents affected during granular lockdowns

By CONSUELO MARQUEZ, GMA News Published September 7, 2021 5:50pm Makati City government on Tuesday assured its lockdown-hit residents of food and medicine aid as it also prepares for enforcement of granular lockdowns. Metro Manila will be shifting to less stringent general community quarantine on September 8 after being under the modified enhanced community quarantine. "As we shift from modified enhanced community quarantine to general community quarantine on Wednesday, I would like to assure Makatizens that our city will provide food packs, COVID-19 home care kits, and swab tests for them in case their street or barangay is placed under granular lockdown," Makati Mayor Abby Binay said in a statement. Binay said Makati has been imposing localized lockdowns since the pandemic began. She cited that in Barangay Pio Del Pilar, they implemented a 14-day localized lockdown due to the sudden spike of cases in the village. The city also conducted house-to-house swab tests in Pio del Pilar. Two days since the results were released, the city lifted the lockdown in areas where people tested negative. "There was also a designated station or ‘concierge’ for those who need to buy medicines and other essentials," Binay also said. Also, Makati distributed COVID-19 home care kits to infected patients with mild symptoms. "It includes a COVID-19 home care handbook, alcohol, oral antiseptic, sore throat spray, fever pad, medical infrared thermometer, pulse oximeter, washable and disposable face masks, vitamins, and medicine for fever," Binay said. Latest data from Makati government showed that the city has 36,132 total confirmed cases including 3,293 active cases, 32,002 recovered cases, and 837 deaths. The pilot program for granular lockdowns in Metro Manila will start on Sept. 8. Trade Chief Ramon Lopez proposed the move as it would only shut selected areas while more businesses will continue to operate. The national government has committed to helping LGUs in providing food assistance to residents that will be affected by the granular lockdown. — RSJ, GMA News
