No Filipino casualties were reported in the flash floods caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ida in New York and surrounding areas, Consul General Elmer Cato said Friday.
“As of now, wala tayong natatanggap na ulat na may casualty tayo among members of the Filipino community sa mga apektadong lugar but yes maraming reports na binaha ang kanilang mga bahay, mga sasakyan,” Cato said in an interview with Super Radyo dzBB.
(As of now, we have yet to receive any report of a casualty among members of the Filipino community in the affected areas but yes there were many reports on flooded houses and submerged vehicles.)
Cato added that the Philippine Consulate General in New York has issued an advisory to the Filipinos to reach out to them if they need any assistance.
“Kanina nag-issue kami ng advisory na ipaalam sa atin kung mayroon sa kanila na nangangailangan ng tulong so we could either link them up sa authorities dito or tulong sa Filipino community para rumesponde,” he said.
(We issued an advisory for them to reach out to us if they need any assistance so we could either link them up to the authorities or inform the Filipino community to respond to their needs.)
Cato said they have yet to receive any request for assistance.
“We have a network of leaders (of Filipino communities), they report to us and since this morning have been talking to them, wala silang nareport na masamang nangyari sa mga kababayan natin, wala kaming natatanggap na request na may nangangailangan ng tulong. We are ready to extend assistance kung may mag-reach out,” he said
He said their personnel at the consulate were able to report to work although some were late because of the suspension of the subway system, particularly in Queens.
