Elderly Pinay dies after getting hit by vehicle in New York By DAVE LLAVANES JR
NEW YORK CITY — A Filipino caregiver was killed after she was hit by a vehicle driven by a fellow Filipino while crossing the street in Little Manila, Woodside, New York.
The victim was identified as Eleanor Neri Marte, 77 years old, from Cagayan de Oro.
According to the investigation, the victim was crossing 41st Avenue and 69th Street when she was hit by a vehicle. Due to the force of the impact, the victim was thrown away and her head was injured.
Marte was taken to Elmhurst Hospital where she passed away a few days later.
The suspect initially surrendered to the New York Police Department but was subsequently released.
The victim had plans to retire and was considering returning to the Philippines. Her family is set to bring her remains back to Cagayan de Oro.
The Philippine Consulate General in New York said it is prepared to provide assistance if the family requests for it.
Marte is survived by her two children who have requested privacy during this time of mourning. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
