Drunk Pinoy hit by car driven by another Pinoy on Saipan
GARAPAN, Saipan – An intoxicated worker from the Philippines sustained injuries after a car hit him as he was crossing a road on Sunday night.
The driver of the gray 2001 Kia Sephia that hit him is also a worker from the Philippines.
CNMI Department of Public Safety spokesperson Lei Ogumoro said Balbino Mamaril, 54, was drunk when the incident happened at 8:17 p.m. on Sunday.
Police said Mamaril also did not use a marked crosswalk to cross Beach Road, a major road on Saipan, the capital of the US Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI).
Mamaril suffered abrasions to the left arm and multiple contusions and lacerations to the right side of his head.
Medics transported him to the Commonwealth Health Center for further treatment.
The driver, Marbert V. Malabanan, 28, was not arrested.
Police said the weather was clear and the road surface was dry when the auto-pedestrian crash happened.
The incident is still under investigation.
The auto-pedestrian crash happened two days after a 65-year-old from China was killed when a pickup truck hit him as he was crossing a road also on Saipan. - Haidee V. Eugenio, GMANews.TV
