Pinoy guard gets life in UAE for killing wife

MANILA, Philippines - A 34-year-old Filipino security guard has been sentenced to life imprisonment for stabbing dead his wife in a fit of jealousy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in May 2008.

Khaleej Times reported Wednesday that the guard, who was not named in the report, had killed his wife on suspicion she was having an illicit affair with another man.

The Criminal Court of first Instance in Dubai also sentenced the guard to an additional month in jail for drinking alcohol. It also ordered him deported once he serves his jail term.

When the convicted Filipino first appeared in the court on November 25 last year, he said he did not mean to kill his wife when he stabbed her with a knife.

Court records showed that on May 2, 2008, the couple had a heated argument and the man stabbed his wife in the chest and neck.

The man’s roommate told interrogators that he, his wife, his brother, a friend and the couple — all Filipinos — shared a room in a villa in the Al Tawar area.

“At that time, he stabbed her next to her breast and she filed a complaint at the Rashidiya police station but she withdrew it later," the witness said.

“Around 4 a.m. on May 2, we saw the woman opening the door and falling. She cried for help as her husband kept on stabbing her in the chest. We asked him to stop but he told us not to intervene. He threatened that he would kill us, too. He smelt of liquor. Finally, we managed to snatch the knife from his hand," the witness added.

When police came to the crime scene, the convict admitted stabbing his wife because he suspected she was having drinking dates with people he did not know. - GMANews.TV
