RP officials set to repatriate body of OFW from Iraq
The Philippine Embassy in Kuwait is now arranging the immediate transfer and repatriation of the remains of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who died in Iraq.
“Locally recruited kaya ‘yong kumpanya ayaw sagutin ‘yong repatriation ng kanyang remains,” said Philippine Ambassador to Kuwait Ricardo Endaya.
Balitang Middle East identified the OFW as Melinda Baes who died of heart attack in Iraq.
The 38-year-old OFW worked as a beautician at the US camp located in the green zone in Baghdad.
According to Endaya, Baes died last March 13 and her remains have yet to be sent back home to her kin in the Philippines because there is no Philippine embassy in Iraq.
“So what we have suggested to DFA (Department of Foreign Affairs) Manila ay makipagtalastasan sila sa Philippine Embassy sa Baghdad na naka-base sa Amman para madala ang bangkay dito sa Kuwait,” Endaya said.
He added “As soon as madala ang bangkay dito sa Kuwait, kami na ang bahala sa pagpapa-repatriate sa Maynila.” Balitang Middle East
