Pinoy reported hurt in Afghanistan unharmed at all - DFA
MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Thursday said the the Filipino worker who was earlier reported to have been wounded in a mortar attack in Afghanistan last March 20 was actually unharmed.
The DFA said that Rolando Tresiño was unscathed when mortar shells fired by rebels rained on Kandahar airbase (southeast of Kandahar City).
Not only is Tresi?o “well and in good condition;" he has also reportedly returned to the Philippines last Monday.
Tresiño told the DFA that their barracks in Kandahar Airbase was hit by a rocket fire. Kandahar has the largest military installation in Afghanistan.
Another Filipino worker onsite was killed during the incident.
He was identified as Norbert Malana Hobayan, a carpenter hired by Recon International, a United Arab Emirates-based construction firm.
The Philippines stopped sending overseas Filipino workers to Afghanistan following the US-led invasion of the Middle East country in 2001. Aside from Afghanistan, Filipinos are also barred from entering Nigeria, Jordan, Iraq, and Lebanon for work. - Kimberly Jane T. Tan, GMANews.TV
