Pinoys in Singapore urged to join Earth Hour 2014
Filipinos in Singapore were urged over the weekend to take part in the observation of Earth Hour there on March 29, Saturday.
The Philippine Embassy in Singapore said this would be a "show of support for the global drive for a positive change for the environment."
"Our participation will help build awareness on the perils of environmental degradation and extend support to mitigation and adaptation efforts against climate change, which are particularly relevant for the Philippines, a country that absorbs some of the world’s most violent typhoons, earthquakes and other climate change-related disasters," it said.
It urged Filipinos in Singapore to see how they can participate in Earth Hour by logging on to http://www.earthhour.org/philippines or http://earthhour.wwf.sg/2014.
The Philippine page of EarthHour.org indicated Earth Hour 2014 in the Philippines is spearheaded by World Wildlife Fund-Philippines plus an ever-growing list of private and public allies.
"Like wildfire, the movement to promote sustainable consumption has spread to over 1600 cities, towns and villages," it said.
"Having topped Earth Hour's town and city participation levels since 2009, the Philippines continues to blaze fresh, fun trails in localizing the language of climate solutions," it added. — LBG, GMA News
