Pinoys in HK advised to avoid protests amid govt-student dialogue

Filipinos in Hong Kong were reminded Tuesday to avoid protest areas, on the day the government was to hold a dialogue with student leaders.

In an advisory, the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong particularly cautioned Filipinos against going to Harcourt Road in Admiralty and Mong Kok.

"The Consulate reiterates its advice to all Filipinos in Hong Kong SAR to take extra caution and continue to avoid areas of protest actions, specifically in the areas of Harcourt Road in Admiralty and Mong Kok," it said.

It added that violent confrontations have occurred in Mong Kok in the past three days and "it is becoming a high risk area."

Demonstrators have paralyzed parts of Hong Kong with mass rallies and road blockades for more than three weeks, in one of the biggest challenges to Beijing's authority since the Tiananmen pro-democracy protests of 1989.

The Consulate General said it "continues to monitor developments and will issue advisories accordingly." Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
