No Pinoy crewmen hurt in collision between US Navy destroyer, PHL-flagged ship

The Department of Foreign Affairs said no Filipinos were hurt in the collision between a US Navy destroyer and a Philippine-flagged vessel off Yokosuka, Japan on Saturday.
"Further to our earlier statement, the PHL Embassy in Tokyo has been advised by Japanese authorities that there are no Filipino casualties so far from the collision that happened at 2:30 a.m. today about 56 nautical miles southwest of Yokosuka, Japan," the DFA said in a statement on Saturday.
It said that the Philippine-flag vessel, ACX Crystal, was manned by 20 Filipino crewmen including a Filipino captain.
"They are safe. The ship itself was slightly damaged from the incident," the DFA added.
It also said that the Filipino crewmen have been told not to leave the ship while it is ported at Tokyo Bay pending their interview by Japanese authorities.
The DFA said it had sent a team to meet and assist the Filipino crewmen.
The Philippine-flagged ship collided with the US Navy destroyer USS Fitzgerald.
Seven US Navy crewmen, who were earlier reported missing, had been found dead inside the damaged ship.
The Philippine-flagged ship was three times the US Navy destroyer's size, a Reuters report said. —ALG, GMA News

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) sees social media as the main reason for the rising number of Filipinos marrying or becoming partners of foreign nationals.
